The Millennial Choir came about as a result of several conversations between two friends, who met through our respective partners after both relocating to Godalming from other parts of the UK a few years ago. Sarah runs several choirs elsewhere in Surrey, and El suggested the idea that we set up something more local - we locked in to what we really wanted - fun, nostalgia and our fave tunes with new friends, and The Millennial Choir was born! Hi, I'm Sarah, and I was born and raised in South-West London and have been singing for most of my life. Despite being a big fan of Disney and the Spice Girls, most of my singing career was spent performing as a classical singer across the UK and Europe. I studied Music at Durham, followed by Vocal Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, and currently run a thriving private teaching practise, as well as teaching singing in a Surrey school and running several mixed-repertoire choirs and being Musical Director of Theatrebox at Epsom Playhouse.
My claims to fame are singing on the 2018 Made in Chelsea Christmas Special, and taking part in a skipping display at the Royal Albert Hall, to the epic soundtrack of Shania Twain's 'That Don't Impress Me Much'. I have an eclectic music taste and in choral terms sings everything, but in this wheel house my favourite genres are Pop, RnB and Garage. Aside from music, I am a parent to a ginormous dog, Nala and enjoy sewing (quite well) and gardening (quite badly) in my spare time.
I believe that singing can be beneficial to everyone and am so excited to start building this community with El, and hopefully lots of other lovely members! Hello my name is Elin, I am so looking forward to meeting you at the choir! If you are feeling nervous, don’t worry…I’m an amateur too! I always loved drama and musical theatre in school, and thought to follow it on at university. Unfortunately this dream never happened! I ended up in an entirely different career. So I am incredibly excited to be helping Sarah out with this wonderful choir- with songs from memory lane, to ignite that forgotten singer in me (only my shower hears my singing these days).
When I’m not being a mum (to children and dogs), I enjoy lots of different things- and always seem to have a different hobby on the go! I love family time, getting creative, women’s circles, learning about everything and anything, keeping active, podcasts, audiobooks, and catching up with friends
